We check the length, the mod-97 check digits and the IBAN country, and tell you whether that country matches the one of the person giving the animal.

Part of this check will come after the legal review: Bank of the IBAN.

We check format and check digits, not the actual holder.

What you type stays in this page’s memory: it is not stored, not put in the web address and not sent to analytics.

What it checks

  • That the length is right for the IBAN country.
  • That the mod-97 check digits are valid: they catch a changed digit and almost every swap of two digits.
  • Which country the account is in and whether it matches the jurisdiction you gave.

What it does not check

  • Who actually holds the account.
  • Whether the account is active.
  • Whether the payment will reach who you think.

What to do before ordering the transfer

  1. Check the format here: a copying mistake shows up instantly.
  2. Ask for a receipt or invoice in the organisation’s name, with its tax ID.
  3. If the IBAN country is not the organisation’s, ask in writing who holds the account. There may be an explanation.

Frequently asked questions

The IBAN is from another country — what does it mean?

It is a fact, not a judgement: some organisations hold accounts abroad. We give you the fact so you can ask before paying.

Can you tell me whose account it is?

No. What you can do is ask for a receipt showing the holder and the tax ID.
